Treasures by Anthony Waichulis

Oil on Masonite, 8 x 10 inches

This is Anthony's painting Treasures that's right off of the easel and still drying. He's getting a great response with the painting so far. Like some of his other work, this is a vanitas which is meant to symbolically show the fleeting nature of life. The composition at one point even contained a time piece.

Anthony explains about his painting Treasures:
...after my skull 'starting point'-- I immediately went directly to elements that would symbolize youth and the pursuit of fun to play against the more brooding backdrop (marble and my favorite cast iron horse-- also appears in other works)...I thought I would then lead with a symbol of wealth . --an earthly treasure that drives so many... So all in all, I hoped this image would pose the question to the viewer: During the time between where you are and that mortality that lies off in the distance -- what is it that you will treasure most?
