Wind from the Sea by Andrew Wyeth

Tempera on hardboard, 18 1/2 x 27 9/16 inches, 1947

This painting by American Artist Andrew Wyeth is on view at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Wyeth made several studies for this work. I was able to locate this watercolor study for the painting. You can find more information about Wyeth's Wind from the Sea on the National Gallery of Art website. 1. The Wyeth's... among my favorites... I've always had a particular fondness for the American painters(realists) of the late 19th and into the 20th century. Homer, Henri, Bellows, Hopper, Sheeler, Shinn... too a long list so as not to leave out the obvious ones... gritty, unapologetic,real... lower to middle class subjects... harbors, alley's, slums even... the unpretty shown as it is in many cases. Wyeths' "Christina's World"...

Nice work on the blog... and the work at The Waichulis Studio is superb.
